The cause of the fire is now unknown, according to the regional local authority for Lyon and the Rhone. There were about 170 firefighters on the scene.
Early on Friday morning, a seven-story residential structure in Vaulx-en-Velin caught fire. The local authorities also stated that a security cordon had been established at the scene of the fire.
