This is a tragedy. Sixteen soldiers lost their lives when their bus plunged into a gorge. This is a senseless loss of life. These soldiers were serving their country and they lost their lives in a preventable accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these soldiers.
16 soldiers died in a road accident involving an Army truck in Sikkim, the army said. Four other soldiers were airlifted to an army hospital in West Bengal for treatment. Defence minister Rajnath Singh said he was “deeply pained” over the loss of lives.
The truck had left an army camp with 16 personnel and picked up four others on its way, officials said. It fell into the gorge while negotiating a sharp turn in Zema area, they said.
