Teen and Miss USA resigned from their titles, citing their personal morals and mental health.

Published

on

The Miss Universe Organisation was shocked this week when Noelia Voigt, the incumbent Miss USA winner, and UmaSofia Srivastava, the reigning Miss Teen USA winner, both resigned from their crowns within days of one another.

With the resignations, the venerable pageant organisation will be without its top two winners for the first time in seventy-two years, casting doubt on its business methods. Calls for greater openness from Miss USA and her parent company, which have both been the subject of criticism and investigation in the past, have been sparked by the resignations.

Voigt became the first Venezuelan American to hold the title after being crowned in September of 2023.

The former Miss Utah and University of Alabama student stated in an Instagram post on Monday that winning the title was a “childhood dream” and that deciding to step down was a “very tough decision.”

The 24-year-old stated, “My goal is that I continue to inspire others to be strong, prioritise your mental health, and advocate for yourself and others by using your voice.”

Voigt captioned the remark, saying, “I realise this may come as a large shock to many.” Never jeopardise your emotional and physical health. She then praised the “unwavering support” of her supporters.

The Miss USA Organisation expressed gratitude to Voigt for her work and wished her “the best in this next chapter” in a statement.

“We acknowledge and endorse Noelia’s choice to retire from her position. We recognise that she has to put herself first right now, but the health and safety of our titleholders comes first,” the statement said. “We will soon make an announcement regarding the crowning of the new Miss USA, and we are currently reviewing plans for the transfer of responsibilities to a successor.”

Srivastava, who was also crowned in September of last year, declared her resignation on Wednesday in a post on Instagram.

The former Miss New Jersey Teen USA said, “I find that my personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organisation.”

The 17-year-old expressed gratitude to her family and supporters, expressed her pleasure in representing her state as a first-generation Mexican American, and mentioned how excited she was to apply to universities and continue working on her multilingual children’s book.

“This was certainly not how I saw my reign coming to a close,” the caption that accompanied the message read, although it also described the event as an honour.

Regarding Srivastava’s declaration, no one could be reached by a representative of Miss Teen USA. No one could be reached for comment from the Miss Universe Organisation, which oversees the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants.

Negative effects of Covishield: medical association requests government assessment of all Covid shots

Published

on

Following the admission by the multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in a UK court that, in rare circumstances, their Covid vaccination might result in blood clots, a group of physicians on Thursday voiced serious concerns about the safety of the Covishield vaccine, which is produced by the Serum Institute of India.

Little did most people know that the COVID-19 vaccinations were being given out before phase-3 studies were finished.

The doctors called for the government to review the science underlying all Covid vaccines, audit their commercialization, and implement active surveillance and monitoring mechanisms in order to ensure that vaccine adverse events are detected as soon as possible. They were speaking at a press conference on behalf of the Awaken India Movement (AIM).

Dr. Tarun Kothari, a radiologist and activist, said at the press conference, “The government has wholly ignored the rising number of cases of tragic deaths post-Covid vaccination all along and continues to promote Covid vaccines as’safe and effective’, without scientific investigation and invoking epidemiology.”

Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), a side effect of the Covid vaccination, is becoming more well known, he added.

Little did most people know that the COVID-19 vaccinations were being given out before phase-3 studies were finished. As to Dr. Sujata Mittal, a gynaecologist and oncologist, the COVID-19 vaccination was administered without full information and data from the makers regarding potential short- or long-term adverse effects, including deaths.

She said that there is currently little knowledge on vaccine-related injuries, particularly in India.

She said that thousands of women experienced irregular menstrual cycles, which were ultimately identified as a vaccination adverse effect in a September 2022 research.

Since the start of the vaccine in 2021, the Awaken India Movement (AIM) has been gathering information on Covid Vaccine deaths reported in Indian media and social media and sharing it with the nation’s senior authorities. Dr. Kothari stated, “The government has not complied with our repeated demands to look into vaccination-related fatalities and disabilities.

The AIM encouraged the Indian government to establish a process that includes vaccine makers in order to recompense all victims of Covid vaccinations, including their family members.

“We also demand establishing fast track courts and vaccine courts to provide swift justice to the vaccine injured and their families,” stated Dr. Mittal.

In order to save lives, she added, early treatment methods need to be developed and extensively disseminated, as well as active surveillance and monitoring systems to guarantee that vaccination adverse effects are detected as soon as feasible.

“Review science behind all Covid vaccines and audit their commercialisation,” stated Dr. Kothari.

Days after admitting to unusual adverse effects of blood clotting and decrease of platelet counts, the UK-based AstraZeneca has begun a global withdrawal of its COVID-19 vaccine, which was supplied in India as ‘Covishield’ in collaboration with the Serum Institute of India.

The corporation stated in a statement that the withdrawal was brought about by an abundance of improved vaccinations that have been available since the epidemic.

Serum Institute of India, a partner of the firm, stated that it has ceased producing and supplying extra doses of Covishield since December 2021. It also reiterated that all extremely uncommon to rare adverse effects, including TTS, have been reported in the box insert in 2021.

Co-developing the COVID-19 vaccine with Oxford University, AstraZeneca’s product was marketed as Vaxzevria across Europe.

Can you monitor your health with a smartwatch?

Published

on

Policy researcher Sneha Sinha, who works in Delhi, was recently taken aback when her wristwatch alerted her to what was described as a “abnormally high” heart rate. According to Sinha, who claimed not to have any underlying medical concerns, “I walk in high-altitude mountain regions above 15,000-16,000 feet where oxygen levels are often low.” “I attempted deep breathing in the hopes that it might help. When it continued for more than 1.5 hours, the ECG showed that atrial fibrillation (AFib) had begun. I therefore made the decision to get medical help,” she continues, adding that the physicians had called her condition a “near call.”

Smartwatches have developed past simple features like making calls and accessing the internet. They now track REM cycles while you sleep and can even measure how many calories you consume when you go out. Modern wearables are equipped with medical functions including blood-oxygen metres, AFib history optical heart sensors, built-in ECG readers, and more. According to a 2020 research that was published in JAMA Cardiology, certain wearables may even be able to produce readings that are just as reliable as conventional ECGs, which may save lives.

How is technology operated?

Smartwatches employ LEDs that flash against the skin to monitor blood flow and calculate heart rate, according to a research on the potential of ECGs that was published in Science Direct. This data is gathered by sensors and processed by computers to determine the heart’s rhythm.

Professional advice: don’t use it carelessly.

Despite the therapeutic promise of wearable technology, doctors caution against using smartwatches as a baseline for cardiovascular health.

“The ease of use and almost continuous monitoring are two advantages over’medical’ 24-hour ECG or Holter monitoring. Precision is a big restriction, despite the fact that patients may learn to monitor their own health, according to Dr. Rakesh Rai Sapra, head of cardiology at Marengo Asia Hospitals in Faridabad.

Users may utilise these gadgets to learn how to look for anomalies using the capabilities that are now available, according to Dr. DK Jhamb, SHALBY Sanar International Hospitals’ director of interventional cardiology. “At best, they serve as preliminary markers of general cardiovascular health. Smartwatches typically report a falsely low heart rate when there is an irregular pulse. See a cardiologist as soon as possible if your heart rate is too high (above 100 beats per minute) or too low (below 60).” he concludes.

Creating a starting point

To guarantee accuracy, feed precise information about your height, weight, dietary changes, and any pre- or post-surgical health-related data.

In order to understand the data being captured and any anomalies, you should always seek medical attention.

When selecting a customised exercise programme, be sure to mention any current medical concerns and pay attention to your health indicators.

Avoid making your own diagnoses and instead use your smartwatch as a guide.
