The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been asked to pay 163.62 crore for advertisements that were run against the rules. The party has been accused of flouting the rules by running ads that violated the guidelines set by the Election Commission. The party has been asked to pay the amount within three days.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has received a letter from the Delhi government’s Directorate of Information & Publicity (DIP) demanding the reimbursement of 163.62 crore in advertising expenses that were allegedly made in contravention of the Supreme Court’s 2015 rules. If the party does not deposit the money within 10 days, it was told that the AAP headquarters may also be sealed.

The notification, a copy of which HT has seen, concerns funds used for advertising that are published primarily outside of Delhi. It was released on Wednesday, days after Vinai Kumar Saxena, the lieutenant governor of Delhi, ordered Naresh Kumar, the city’s chief secretary, to collect the 97 crore the AAP spent on advertisements in breach of the rules on December 20.
