Shubman Gill’s first Test century was a momentous occasion, not just for him but for Indian cricket as a whole. Ravindra Jadeja, one of the senior members of the team, was quick to caution him about the challenges that lie ahead.
“Prithvi Shaw is not even around,” said Jadeja, referring to the young opener who has been sidelined with an injury. “You have to keep performing to stay in the team.”
Gill is only 20 years old but he has already shown glimpses of his immense potential. He will no doubt have to work hard to cement his place in the team, but if he can continue to score runs at the top of the order, he will be a key player for India for many years to come.
