The Congress has released its eighth list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress party has denied a Lok Sabha ticket to Supriya Shrinate from Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh, a seat she unsuccessfully contested in the 2019 general elections. Instead, Congress fielded Virendra Chaudhary in its eighth list of 14 candidates.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate is embroiled in controversy over a deleted social media post on BJP’s Mandi candidate Kangana Ranaut.

Shrinate triggered a social media controversy by posting a derogatory post against Kangana Ranaut, accusing her of supporting her Mandi candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Shrinate claimed that numerous individuals had access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts, and someone from there made an inappropriate post that has since been deleted.

The individual deleted a post after realizing it was inappropriate and wanted to know how it happened, stating that they are not known for making personal or indecent comments towards women.

The Election Commission has issued a show-cause notice to Supriya Shrinate for her offensive remarks against Kangana Ranaut, stating that her remarks violate the Model Code of Conduct and its advice to maintain dignity during electioneering.

The Commission has deemed the comments as ‘undignified and in bad taste’ and has requested her response by 5pm on March 29, 2024.

The Congress party has announced its eighth list of Lok Sabha candidates, including Rao Yadvendra Singh against Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Guna, Pratap Bhanu Sharma against former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Vidisha, and Tarvar Singh Lodhi from Damoh.

The Congress has declared 208 candidates for four seats in Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, three each in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, bringing the total number to 208.
