Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has issued a statement on the recent clash between Indian and Chinese forces in the Galwan Valley, saying that “it is not 1962 anymore”.

Khandu’s statement comes after 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the clash, which is being seen as the deadliest confrontation between the two countries in over 50 years.

“The situation in 1962 was different, and our forces were not as well-equipped as they are today,” Khandu said. “I am confident that our armed forces will protect our territorial integrity and defend our country.”

The Chief Minister also called on the people of Arunachal Pradesh to maintain peace and not to panic, saying that the state government is monitoring the situation closely.
