Buddha Purnima 2024: 12 lessons from Gautam Buddha that can transform your outlook on existence

Published

on

Buddha Purnima 2024: One of the year’s most fortunate days is Buddha Purnima. Buddha Purnima is celebrated worldwide with great fervour and devotion by the Buddhist community. In certain regions of the nation, it is also known as Vaishakha Purnima or Vesak. People celebrate this lucky day by organising processions and concerts. Gautam Buddha’s birth anniversary is commemorated on Buddha Purnima. Siddhartha Gautam achieved enlightenment under the revered Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya on this day. This occurred during a protracted meditation by Siddhartha Gautam, who was looking for answers about the purpose of life and the source of suffering. Siddhartha Gautam became known as Gautam Buddha upon his enlightenment.

Buddha Purnima is commemorated on Thursday, May 23, this year. We should keep in mind Gautam Buddha’s teachings and how he modelled for us how to live a life of love, non-violence, and peace as we commemorate this unique day.

Buddha’s teachings that can transform your life:

Since everything we do in this world returns back to us, as Gautam Buddha taught, we should live compassionate and loving lives. Nothing is lost in this universe.

The only thing that is constant in this world is change, therefore we should learn to accept it. Everything changes.

Buddha advocated for living in the moment rather than ruminating on the past or fretting about the future.

Truth cannot be concealed: According to him, the truth cannot be concealed from view, just like the sun and moon.

Think positively: Since our thoughts are reflected in our minds, we should feed our minds good things to think about in order to lead happy lives.

Never give up: We should never give up on ourselves, regardless of our circumstances or background.

Walk alone: When we choose the path of truth, we might not always find companionship. We ought to never stop walking.

Never be harsh with others: words have the power to hurt, therefore we should always select our words wisely.

Our biggest possession is our bodies, which are our greatest value. It needs to be loved and cared for.

Manage your rage: Anger may lead us to act in ways that are inconsistent with our morals. It is for us to control, not for us to control.

Never think back on the past: The past is in the past, and it is best to move on. Rather, we ought to live in the moment.

Recognise what we have: We ought to learn to be content with our lot in life and to be grateful for it.

Autistic Pride Day 2024: Date, theme, history, significance and all you need to know

Published

on

Every year, people with autism gather to celebrate Autistic Pride Day. This day recognizes the value of pride for individuals with autism and its role in promoting constructive social change. To celebrate the abilities, qualities, and distinctive viewpoints of people on the autism spectrum, autistic people, their families, and allies come together. It advocates for inclusivity, equality, and respect for autistic voices while celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of autistic people in a variety of sectors. The day aims to create a more open and welcoming society for everyone by fostering a sense of pride, empowerment, and solidarity among the autistic community. To learn more about this day, scroll down to read about its history and date.

Date and Theme of Autism Pride Day in 2024
Every year on June 18, which happens to be a Tuesday this year, people celebrate Autism Pride Day. This year’s topic, “Taking the Mask Off,” emphasizes the value of accepting one’s innate preferences, behaviors, and modes of interaction with the outside world. This topic is powerful and freeing; it encourages people with autism to be themselves and to resist social pressures to hide who they really are.

History of Autism Pride Day in 2024
Aspies For Freedom (AFF) first observed Autistic Pride Day in 2005. They picked June 18 to commemorate the birthday of the group’s youngest member at the time. The celebration was modeled by AFF after the gay pride movement. Co-founder of Autism Rights Group Highland (ARGH) Kabie Brook emphasises that the day is not a venue for other charities or organisations to promote themselves or overshadow autistic voices, but rather a grassroots autistic community event that was started and is still run by autistic individuals themselves. This day is represented by the rainbow infinity symbol, which stands for “diversity with infinite variations and infinite possibilities.”

Importance of World Autism Awareness Day
As the name suggests, Autism Pride Day is a very important event that raises public awareness of the difficulties experienced by those who have autism. Our goal should be to treat autistic people with understanding and respect in order to eliminate stigma. This day should also emphasize providing equal opportunity for individuals with autism.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2024: All the information you need to know about the date, history, shubh muhurat, and significance

Published

on

In the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, on the eleventh lunar day of the waxing phase, comes Nirjala Ekadashi, a significant Hindu holy day. The waterless fast that followers of this day practice is the source of the name “Nirjala”. Nirjala Ekadashi is considered the most austere and sacred of the 24 ekadashis. If observed fervently, it is said to confer the same virtue as observing all the other ekadashis of the year. It is also known as “Pandava Bhima Ekadashi,” “Jyestha Shukla Ekadashi,” and “Pandava Nirjala Ekadashi.” This day is devoted to Lord Vishnu. Scroll down to learn more about this auspicious occasion, from date to history.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2024 is when? Recognize the date and time.
This year, on Tuesday, June 18, the important Hindu holiday of Nirjala Ekadashi will be held. Drik Pachang states that the following are lucky times to commemorate the occasion:

Time in Parana: 06:05 AM until 07:28 AM

Dwadashi end time on Parana day is 07:28 AM.

Ekadashi tithi starts on June 17, 2024, at 04:43 AM.

Ekadashi tithi finishes on June 18, 2024, at 06:24 AM.

History of Nirjala Ekadashi 2024
Bhima, the second and most powerful of the five Pandava brothers in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, is the inspiration behind the name Nirjala Ekadashi. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana states that Bhima, who had an intense love of eating, attempted to keep all ekadashi fasts but was unable to suppress his appetite. He went to the sage Vyasa, the grandfather of the Pandavas and the author of the Mahabharata, in search of a solution. Vyasa counseled him to keep a severe fast on Nirjala Ekadashi, which falls on one day every year. Bhima achieved the virtue of all 24 ekadashis by performing this.

Relevance of the Nirjala Ekadashi
The Vishnu and Markandeya Puras claim that Ekadashi is a manifestation of Vishnu in and of itself. It is said that keeping the vrata (fast) on this day will atone for all sins. It is said that completing the Nirjala Ekadashi vrata wins the favor of Vishnu, bestowing upon the devotee bliss, prosperity, and pardon for transgressions. The merit accruing from observing all 24 of the year’s ekadashis is given to the devotee. Vaishnavas are particularly well-liked and adhere to this fast.

It is stated that the spectator attains moksha, or salvation, and long life. After a person passes away, their soul is usually retrieved by the emissaries of Yama, the god of death, who then decides whether to send them to Naraka (hell) or Svarga (heaven). But individuals who follow the Nirjala Ekadashi customs are thought to be exempt from Yama’s judgment and are instead taken by Vishnu’s messengers to Vaikuntha, Vishnu’s abode, after death.

Father’s Day 2024: What day is it on? Learn the date, meaning, background, and traditions of this day honouring fathers.

Published

on

Father’s Day 2024: Celebrated every year to recognise fathers and give thanks for their influence in our lives, Father’s Day is observed globally. People honour the sacrifices their father—whether it was their biological father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, brother, or guardian—made to help shape their life on this day. On this day, show them how much you appreciate them by planning a surprise party, creating handcrafted gifts, preparing their favourite food, or taking them on a trip. On the third Sunday in June, a number of nations celebrate the holiday, including India. If you observe Father’s Day, you ought to be aware of its background, accurate date, meaning, and other details.

Father’s Day falls on June 16 this year, since the joyous occasion is commemorated on the third Sunday of June every year. Spending quality time with your dad, making thoughtful gifts, throwing a movie night, giving him literature, getting a gym membership to enhance his health, performing deeds of kindness like crossing things off his to-do list, and more may all help to make this day special for him. The goal is to commemorate and celebrate the men who have contributed significantly to our lives in order to emphasise the value of the father-child bond.

The History and Significance of Father’s Day in 2024:
Father’s Day began as a result of a selfless project initiated in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington. Dodd was inspired to honour her father and many other fathers like him in 1909 after attending a Mother’s Day talk. Inspired by her father’s position as a single parent raising her and her siblings, Dodd made the decision to start celebrating Father’s Day. But widespread celebration of the festival took some time. Father’s Day was eventually acknowledged by the UN officially in 1972.

The celebration of Father’s Day honours the unique role that a father or other father figure plays in a child’s life. A father instills principles in his children that will influence them in the future, and his patience helps them develop character. They are our confidantes, our empathetic shoulders to cry on, and our sympathetic ears to wail into. Thus, occasions such as Father’s Day serve as a constant reminder to treasure and honour them in our lives.
