Indian women’s hockey team registered a stellar 5-1 win over South Africa in the first game of the four-match series on Monday. Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke made her senior debut for India after leading the Indian Junior team to the Uniphar U23 5 Nations Tournament 2022 in May.

Rani converted a penalty corner to give India the lead in the 12th minute. Navneet Kaur (24′) and Sangita Kumari (30′) masterfully deflected the ball into the net from a penalty corner to further extend India’s lead. Quanita Bobbs pulled a goal back for South Africa after 44 minutes.

Both teams failed to find the net in the final stages of the game as India held on to win comfortably.
