Chase Oliver, a party activist, has been nominated by the Libertarian Party for president after the party openly rejected both former president Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at its convention.

Following four days of dramatic confrontation, attempts to win the party’s endorsement by Donald J. Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were unsuccessful.

Chase Oliver: who is he?
Openly gay former Democrat Chase Oliver has become a rising figure in the Libertarian Party. His ability to rally support from a diverse electorate was demonstrated in 2022 when he forced a runoff in the Georgia U.S. Senate election.

An activist from Atlanta has previously represented Georgia in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House. In order to balance the budget, his campaign has advocated for significant reductions to the federal government’s spending. Along with these other goals, he has called for the termination of military aid to Israel and Ukraine, the repeal of the death penalty, and the closing of all military outposts abroad.

How likely is it that the Libertarian Party will win?
One of the most well-known minorities in the United States is the Libertarian Party, which is well-known for its unwavering emphasis on individual liberty and minimal government. At least 37 states have guaranteed the party’s nominee a seat on the ballot in November, and more states are expected to join in the coming months.

Third parties, however, have seldom faced competition in a US two-way presidential election. Only 1% of the vote went to the libertarian candidate four years ago.

Oliver is leading the Libertarian Party, which wants to show unity while promoting its basic values of liberty and less government involvement. Oliver’s leadership will be essential in organising support and managing the complexity of the American political scene as the 2024 election draws near.

Oliver had to go through seven rounds of elimination voting over the course of more than seven hours to get nominated. For a while, it appeared as though the party would not have a candidate because over 33% of the electorate chose “none of the above.” The party chair, Angela McArdle, stressed the serious ramifications of not nominating a candidate, since it would have endangered ballot access in numerous states.
