Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in a money-laundering case related to the scrapped Delhi excise policy, is expected to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in Rouse Avenue court on April 1.
The Aam Aadmi Party national convenor has filed a petition in the Delhi high court challenging his arrest, claiming fundamental rights were infringed upon by the investigating agency. The court has served a notice to the ED, with the hearing set for April 3.
The hearing follows the INDIA bloc’s leaders’ recent ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally, where they criticized the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, and called for the alliance partners to unite in national interest, marking the first show of opposition strength following the announcement of Lok Sabha polls.

Arvind Kejriwal’s custody was extended by the Rouse Avenue Court until April 1, due to “sufficient reasons” provided by the Enforcement Directorate, including the need for further custodial interrogation with collected material and recorded statements.
The ED reported that Arvind Kejriwal’s statements were recorded over five days, but he was reportedly “evasive” in his response.
During the hearing, Arvind Kejriwal claimed to have given documentation to Manish Sisodia in his presence, despite only four statements being presented by him.
Arvind Kejriwal questioned whether four statements made by various individuals, including bureaucrats and MLAs, are enough to arrest a sitting Chief Minister.
The court acknowledged the ED’s argument that the chief minister should be confronted with data from digital devices and other relevant information.
Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Gopal Rai attended the hearing, along with Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal and two children.
Additional solicitor general SV Raju alleged that the ED deliberately didn’t provide a copy of the matter, causing them to be unprepared.
Sunita Kejriwal accused Arvind Kejriwal of being unwell and experiencing frequent harassment, claiming that his sugar levels are fluctuating and that the tyranny she described will not last, and people will respond accordingly.
The Delhi high court rejected a petition for the removal of AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal from the position of Delhi chief minister following his arrest in a money laundering case.
US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller stated Washington is following Kejriwal’s case, but Indian officials objected and summoned a senior US embassy official, while the external affairs ministry spokesperson deemed the remarks unwarranted.
