The government of Arunachal Pradesh has been asked for its opinion on a hydroelectric project that has been met with protests from indigenous people. The project, which would dam the Siang river, has been opposed by those who say it would damage the environment and disrupt the lives of those who depend on the river. The government has said it is seeking the opinion of the people of Arunachal Pradesh before making a decision on the project.

The project will involve felling of over 2.8 lakhs of trees in dense subtropical, evergreen, broadleafed- and sub-tropical rain forest. A run of the project channels flowing water from a river through a canal or penstock to spin a turbine.
