Dispute over judicial appointments: Rijiju says we adhere to all directives

The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has said that the government is committed to following all directives issued by the Supreme Court with regard to the appointment of judges.

This comes after the apex court issued a contempt notice to the Centre for not following its order to appoint judges to the Allahabad and Bombay High Courts.

Rijiju said that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the process of appointment of judges is fair and transparent.

He added that the government is also committed to providing adequate resources to the judiciary so that it can function effectively.

The Supreme Court had earlier issued a directive to the government to appoint judges to the Allahabad and Bombay High Courts within six weeks.

However, the government has not yet complied with the order, leading to the contempt notice.

Rijiju said that the government is committed to following all directives issued by the Supreme Court and will take all necessary steps to ensure that the judiciary is adequately resourced.
