Flag Day of India

Published

on

The Flag Day of India is observed on 7th December every year to honour the national flag. It was on this day in 1946 when the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the national flag as the official flag of the independent nation. 7th December is also the death anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.

The national flag is a tricolour of deep saffron, white and green. The saffron stands for courage and sacrifice, the white for peace and truth, and the green for faith and chivalry. In the centre of the white band is a wheel which is taken from the Ashoka Chakra. The flag is a symbol of our national pride.

On this day, flag hoisting ceremonies are held all over the country and people pledge to uphold the dignity of the flag. The national flag is flown on all government buildings and schools on this day.

Let us all remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and pledge to always keep our flag flying high.
