Struggling to sell one multi-million dollar home currently on the market won’t stop actress and singer Jennifer Lopez from expanding her property collection. Lopez has reportedly added to her real estate holdings an eight-plus acre estate in Bel-Air anchored by a multi-level mansion.
The property, complete with a 30-seat screening room, a 100-seat amphitheater and a swimming pond with sandy beach and outdoor shower, was asking about $40 million, but J. Lo managed to make it hers for $28 million. As the Bronx native acquires a new home in California, she is trying to sell a gated compound.
Black farmers in the US’s South— faced with continued failure their efforts to run successful farms their launched a lawsuit claiming that “white racism” is to blame for their inability to the produce crop yields and on equivalent to that switched seeds.
What Will Be The Next Step to Complete?
The “new ’20s” idea might not work—there were a lot more young people in the United States then than now; a reprise of the world-changing inventions and discoveries of the 1920s would be a big surprise to those economists who believe that we have been in an invention dry spell since the 1970s. In his Businessweek piece, Peter Coy largely agrees, writing, “In all probability … the U.S. will continue to wrestle with ‘secular
These experts make strong cases, and they satisfy my natural instinct not to go there. But I remain very interested in the reasons the ’20s appeal to our imagination right now. Of course, it’s the booze, the sex, and the parties. But it’s also a decade with a very strong identity—and I think that helps. Writing in the journal American Speech in 1951, Mamie J. Meredith argued that the ’20s boasted.
I’d argue that Meredith’s point about the decade’s exceptionality still holds: How many other 20th century decades have a nice little permanent descriptor like Roaring? It helps that most of these are good adjectives, evoking a time you’d probably like to live through again—but even the slightly dangerous-sounding ones conjure up something specific. That definiteness offers an appealing sense
Anyway, let’s get to that fun. A very joyful book to read about the decade is Frederick Lewis Allen’s Only Yesterday: An Informal History of the 1920s, which Allen—a blueblood journalist and editor at Harper’s—published in 1931. The book chronicles all of the movement and motion that makes the decade sexy, and doesn’t seem to miss a fad.

A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
Allen is also really good at describing parties—or, at least, the ones the middle class and upper class attended. The historian wrote about how women taking up smoking had “strewed the dinner table with their ashes, snatched a puff between the acts, invaded the masculine sanctity of the club car.

Perhaps by remembering the twenties merely as an enchanting series of novelties or the crude afterthought of a simpler past, we preserve the illusion of our own simple innocence,” mused historian Paula Fass in the introduction to her book The Damned and the Beautiful: American Youth in the 1920s.

Commentators are not amused by Virat Kohli’s refusal to learn from his error: “He’s become a nicking machine.”
Virat Kohli, a star India batter with a 316-run record at the MCG, was dismissed for five off 29 balls in the Boxing Day Test against Australia. This marks the fifth time Kohli has been caught behind in the series. India’s captain Kohli struggled to maintain composure in the first innings, causing India to fall to a 33/3 lead at lunch. Despite this, visitors Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal rallied for a draw.
India’s captain, Khanawaja, dismissed a player who had been a key player in their recent cricketing performance, stating that he had turned into a nicking machine. Kohli’s dismissal in 2024 marked his worst year in Test cricket, with an average of 24.52 runs from 19 innings. His previous best seasons were 202 runs in 2011, 2019, 2022, and 2020, but 2024 saw a significant drop in runs.

“Is Sam Konstas Virat Kohli’s father?” is a widely circulated, modified wiki allegation that angers supporters following an on-field altercation.
As Virat Kohli faces scrutiny after a shoulder bump with debutant Sam Konstas, an Australian writer’s X post has left fans angry.
After Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is making headlines again after video footage showed him intentionally bump into Australia’s 19-year-old debutant, Sam Konstas on the field during India’s fourth Test match against the Aussies. The two cricketers also engaged in a verbal altercation after the collision.
In a interview, Konstas revealed that he didn’t realise what happened as he was just taking care of his gloves after the end of the over. “I think emotions got to both of us. I didn’t realise. I was just doing my gloves when I got the little shoulder charge but it happens in cricket,” he told Channel 7.
Australian writer draws heat
Australian journalist and cricketer writer Peter Lalor joined in the conversation around the clash and shared a screenshot of what appears to be an edited Wikipedia entry for Sam Konstas. The image shows that the 19-year-old cricketer’s Wikipedia bio reads: “He is also the father of Virat Kholi.”
“Oh this is a bit mischievous. Konstas father of Kohli,” the journalist wrote.
HT.com checked the Australian batsman’s Wikipedia page but found no such entry. The image was either edited or the addition has since been removed. The post drew sharp reactions as users slammed Lalor for sharing
“Seriously Peter? Laughing on a silly Wikipedia edit by some random fan. This is embarrassing. You’re a journalist. Behave like one,” said one user. “And I though you were a grown man,” said another user.
Other fans took a less dignified approach and shared edited versions of Wikipedia entries for Lalor and Australia to mock the writer.
On-field clash sparks meme fest
The video of the exchange has sparked a meme fest on social media with some criticising Kohli for his aggressive stance while other defending him for hitting back at the Australian team which is known for frequent sledging on the field. Here are some of the reactions:
Can Kohli be banned for confrontation?
Match referee Andy Pycroft will assess the incident between Kohli and Konstas to determine if the Code of Conduct was breached. According to the ICC’s Code of Conduct, “any form of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket.”
If Pycroft determines that the shoulder bump was as a Level Two offence, either Kohli or Konstas could face accumulation of four demerit points which would trigger a suspension. This could rule the cricketer out of the next test match. A Level One offence, however, would likely result in a match fee fine, with no further repercussions.
