“Have you seen what occurred in Bihar,” the SC reminds Punjab in response to a PIL on illicit alcohol
The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Punjab government to respond to a PIL seeking a ban on the sale of illicit alcohol in the state.
A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta was hearing a PIL filed by lawyer and activist Amit Sahni, who has raised the issue of the sale of illicit alcohol in the state.
During the hearing, the bench asked the Punjab government whether it had seen what had happened in Bihar, where many people died after consuming illicit alcohol.
The bench also asked the Punjab government whether it was taking any steps to prevent the sale of illicit alcohol in the state.
The Punjab government told the court that it was taking steps to prevent the sale of illicit alcohol in the state and would file a detailed reply to the PIL.
The court has adjourned the matter for two weeks.
