Hit for global terrorism in UNSC, Pakistan targets PM Modi personally

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has hit out at Pakistan for its continued support for global terrorism, with some members even targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally.

The UNSC held a closed-door meeting on Wednesday to discuss the issue of global terrorism, with a particular focus on Pakistan. During the meeting, several members of the council slammed Pakistan for its continued support for terrorist groups such as the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Some members of the UNSC even went so far as to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally, accusing him of not doing enough to stop terrorist attacks in India. Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, was also present at the meeting and she was quick to hit back at the criticism levelled against her country.

The UNSC meeting on global terrorism is the latest sign of the growing international pressure on Pakistan to do more to tackle the problem of terrorism. Earlier this week, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) placed Pakistan on its “grey list” of countries that are not doing enough to combat terrorist financing.

The FATF decision is a major setback for Pakistan, which had been working hard to avoid being included in the list.
