Harbhajan Singh, a seasoned spinner from India, has advised Royal Challengers Bengaluru to restore Virat Kohli as captain following the 2024 Indian Premier League because he believes the team needs an Indian player at the helm. After a lacklustre start to the season, RCB has recovered nicely to maintain their hopes of making the playoffs with a run of five straight victories. They haven’t yet, though, relied on the performance of other clubs to advance to the season’s next round.

Several prominent international players have fallen short of expectations this season, raising the possibility of a major shake-up at the top of the RCB roster next season. With 661 runs in 13 games thus far this season, Kohli leads the Orange Cap standings. Meanwhile, he has been in outstanding form this season. The most notable aspect of Kohli’s batting this season has been his positive purpose with the bat. He is playing with an attacking mindset against the spinners in the middle overs, raising the stakes when necessary.

The former captain is still an important member of the RCB leadership group because he helps Faf du Plessis with field substitutions and has been known to lift the spirits of bowlers when things become hard.

According to Harbhajan, Kohli is a significant leader who significantly influences his team, much like MS Dhoni.

“They ought to go after an Indian person if they don’t qualify. Why not make Virat Kohli the captain again? Because Virat Kohli is a strong leader and understands the style of cricket they need to play, Dhoni has a great deal of influence in Chennai. Virat Kohli provides that, and they are playing with a lot of aggressiveness and determination right now. Going ahead, I want Virat Kohli to be the team’s captain,” Harbhajan said on Star Sports.

After IPL 2021, Kohli gave up the leadership of RCB in order to better manage his workload. In the 2016 edition, the franchise advanced to the championship game under his direction.

The standout batsman for RCB has hit 33 sixes so far, which is second most for a batter after Abhishek Sharma of SRH (35 sixes). He has more sixes than Australian sensations Jake Fraser McGurk and Shivam Dube (28), Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Riyan Parag (31), Sunil Narine (32), Rajat Patidar (27), and Rishabh Pant (25). With a career-high 38 sixes in 16 games in 2016, Kohli’s IPL season record of 30 sixes is only surpassed once, this time in history.
