The recent military agreement between North and South Korea is at risk of being broken if the North violates airspace, according to the South. This would be a major setback for relations between the two countries, which have been slowly improving in recent years. The agreement includes a number of provisions, such as a no-fly zone over the demilitarized zone, that are designed to reduce tensions and prevent conflict. If the North violates this agreement, it would be a clear sign that they are not interested in peace and stability on the peninsula. The South has said that it would respond to any violation with “all necessary measures,” including military force. This is a serious matter that could lead to renewed conflict on the Korean peninsula.

South Korea may suspend a military pact if North Korea violates its airspace again, President Yoon Suk-yeol says, Yonhap news agency reports.

Although inter-Korean ties have long been strained, they have become even more so since Yoon assumed office in May and promised to take a harder approach against Pyongyang.

Yoon criticised the military’s response to the drone incident and partially attributed her criticism to the previous administration’s reliance on the 2018 agreement that outlawed hostile actions in border regions.

He has exhorted the armed forces to be prepared to retaliate.
