Prince Harry has said that he “couldn’t bear” to see Meghan Markle “suffer” during their time together.

The couple’s relationship was under intense public scrutiny and they were often hounded by paparazzi.

Speaking in the new docuseries, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the Duke of Sussex said: “I will not be bullied into playing a role that killed my mother.”

Harry was just 12 years old when his mother, Princess Diana, died in a car crash in Paris while being chased by paparazzi.

He said he felt “let down” by the British tabloid press and that he wanted to protect his wife and son, Archie, from the same fate.

“Part of this job and part of any job, like everybody, means putting on a brave face and turning a cheek to a lot of the stuff,” he said.

“But again, for me and for my wife, of course there is a lot of stuff that hurts, especially when the majority of it is untrue.”

It’s clear that Prince Harry still carries the pain of his mother’s death and is determined to protect his own family from the same kind of hurt.
