Wang Yi’s accommodative comments are at contrast with the PLA’s stance on LAC.
Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, recently made some accommodative comments about the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between China and India. This is in contrast to the stance of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on the matter, which has been much more aggressive.
The reason for this discrepancy is likely due to the fact that the PLA is a military organization, and thus its primary concern is the security of China’s borders. Wang Yi, on the other hand, is a diplomat, and his focus is on maintaining good relations with other countries. In this case, it is in China’s interests to de-escalate the tension on the LAC, and so Wang Yi’s comments are in line with that goal.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not the PLA will actually follow Wang Yi’s lead on this issue, or if they will continue to take a more aggressive stance. However, his comments do represent a change in tone from the Chinese government, and could potentially lead to a de-escalation of the situation on the LAC.
