India accepts the nasal Covid-19 vaccine despite the fourth wave fear

A new pandemic wave has prompted the Indian government to authorise the nasal Covid-19 vaccination. It will serve as a heterologous booster shot. In private hospitals, the nasal vaccine will be made first available. According to government sources, the new vaccine will also be a part of the nation’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign starting today.

The CO-WIN portal will offer Bharat Biotech’s intranasal vaccination. The BBV154 vaccine has been given the go light by the Union Health Ministry to be added to the immunisation schedule as a booster dose for those over the age of 18.

Back in November, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved the Bharat Biotech-developed iNvaccine for restricted emergency usage in age groups of 18 and over as a heterologous booster dosage.

The addition of the needle-free vaccine coincides with rising Covid-19 instances in numerous nations around the world, raising alarm and concerns in India. India’s centre and state governments have increased testing and genetic sequencing in response to the enormous rise in neighbouring China, which has raised concerns.

The country’s Covid-19 issue was discussed at a high-level conference on Thursday, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over. He advised the public to wear masks and stay away from crowded areas.
