In a fiery exchange at the 55th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council, India exercised its ‘Right of Reply,’ staunchly refuting Pakistan’s allegations and highlighting its own concerns over Islamabad’s track record on human rights. First Secretary Anupama Singh took the floor to address what she described as ‘flagrantly false accusations about India’ made by Pakistan.

‘With regard to the extensive references to India made by Pakistan, we note that it is deeply unfortunate for the Council’s platform to have once again been misused to make patently false allegations against India,’ Singh said.

‘With regard to the extensive references to India made by Pakistan, we note that it is deeply unfortunate for the Council’s platform to have once again been misused to make patently false allegations against India,’ Singh said.

She restated India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir’s status, emphasizing that the territory is an essential component of the country and that any actions made there are domestic affairs.
“The constitutional measures implemented by the Indian government to guarantee socioeconomic development and good governance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are matters internal to India. The entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India.” The ambassador said, “Pakistan has no right or authority to make decisions on Indian internal affairs.

Singh criticized Pakistan’s human rights record, highlighting persecution against minorities and support for UNSC-sanctioned terrorists, contrasting it with India’s democratic credentials and pluralistic ethos.

India’s progress in economic progress and social justice is ironic, as the country with a history of systemic persecution of its own minorities is criticized for its poor human rights record.

In August 2023, 19 churches and 89 Christian houses were destroyed in Pakistan’s Jaranwala city, contrasting with India’s pluralistic ethos and democratic credentials, which are exemplary for the world.

Singh dismissed Pakistan’s credibility, citing its involvement in terrorism, economic struggles, and failure to serve its people’s interests. She criticized the country’s debt-ridden national balance sheets and the shame its people feel for its government’s failure to serve their interests. The 55th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council is upcoming.
