Indian-American lab owner guilty in $447 fraud involving genetic testing

Back in 2016, an Indian-American lab owner was caught up in a $447 fraud involving genetic testing. She was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to probation.

This case is a reminder that, even though genetic testing can be a powerful tool, it’s important to make sure you’re working with a reputable lab. Otherwise, you could end up wasting a lot of money – or worse.

Pharmacist David Patel paid kickbacks and bribes to patient brokers to obtain signed doctors’ orders authorising telemedicine tests, the Department of Justice says. Patel required brokers to sign contracts that falsely stated they were performing legitimate advertising services for LabSolutions, it says.
