“Cricket has been my life for as long as I can remember, and it hurts to not be able to be a part of the action,” Rahul wrote in his message. “But I know that this is just a setback, and I will come back stronger. Rahul had been in fine form leading up to the injury, having scored 331 runs in the 2023 edition of the IPL, which included four half-centuries. His performances in the tournament had earned him the captaincy of the Punjab Kings, who were looking to improve on their performance from the previous season.

In addition to the IPL, Rahul was also set to play a crucial role in India’s bid to win the World Test Championship Finals against New Zealand in June. The right-handed batsman had been in great form in the longer format of the game as well, scoring 625 runs in eight matches with an average of 62.50.
