India is not an outlier in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) or the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) group, despite China’s dominant role in these organizations. India is a key member of both groups, and its involvement is essential for the success and effectiveness of these organizations.

In the SCO, India became a full member in 2017, alongside China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. While China is the largest economy and the most influential member of the organization, India’s membership is important for balancing the regional power dynamics and for promoting regional cooperation on various issues, including counter-terrorism, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.

Similarly, in the BRICS, India is a founding member and an integral part of the group, which was formed in 2006. Although China is the largest economy among the BRICS countries, India has been an important contributor to the group’s initiatives and achievements. For example, India has played a significant role in establishing the New Development Bank (NDB), which was established by the BRICS countries in 2014 to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies.

Therefore, while China may have a dominant role in the SCO and BRICS, India is not an outlier in these organizations. India’s participation is crucial for promoting regional cooperation and ensuring that these organizations represent the interests of all member countries.
