Jimochhaya Peoples Party of Assam supports the BJP in the Deori Autonomous Council.

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced late on Sunday that the Jimochhaya People’s Party (JPP), which won seven of the 22 seats in the Deori Autonomous Council election in Upper Assam last week and emerged as the main opposition party, has decided to extend support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

With 12 of the council’s 22 seats, the BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) maintained control. Seven seats were won by the JPP, a small organisation from the Deori community, two by the Congress, and one by an independent candidate.

“JPP ran its campaign against the BJP and the Congress. After meeting with me, party leaders expressed a desire to work with the BJP to ensure the Deori community’s overall development, Sarma said on Sunday after a meeting with JPP leaders in Guwahati.

“We have made the decision to work with the BJP to form the next administration in DAC. Mahesh Deori, president of JPP, continued, “JPP has decided to offer unconditional support for the greater good of the Deori people.

According to the chief minister, the BJP will be represented as the Deori Autonomous Council’s chief executive. The partnership’s other specifics will be worked out later.

Debakant Deori, who won the Chichi Borgaon seat as an independent, declared that he too would support the BJP. “I’ve also made the decision to back the BJP. After meeting the chief minister, he said, “If I get a post in the DAC, it will help in addressing problems faced by people from my constituency.

After the election results were announced on Thursday, the JPP accused its ally of trying to “derail” smaller organizations. The JPP had previously formed an alliance with the Congress.
