According to state media on Friday, North Korea fired eighteen short-range ballistic missiles during a rehearsal to show that it is prepared to hit South Korea’s “gangsters’ regime” first in the event of an invasion.

According to state news agency , North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the practice launching of 600mm “super-large” multiple rocket launchers on Thursday.

The report was released after South Korea claimed to have seen at least ten North Korean short-range ballistic missiles fired off its east coast and described the activity as perhaps a show for potential customers, including Russia.

Leader Kim supervised the demonstration at the launch site while artillery soldiers hit the target, an island some 365 kilometres (227 miles) away, according to KCNA.

Images released by state media showed eighteen missiles—experts refer to them as KN-25s—launching from mobile launchers into the air.

The Centre for International and Strategic Studies claims that the “super-large” rocket, which underwent its first test in 2019, conflates the lines separating multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) and surface-rocket manoeuvres (SRBMs).

Such rockets may be equipped with a tactical nuclear bomb, according to North Korea.

The report further stated that Kim urged the nation’s nuclear force to be prepared to carry out the role of war deterrence as well as to take the initiative in event of war.

“Showers of fire for annihilation” during the exercise demonstrated North Korea’s will to protect its sovereignty and respond to the enemy, according to a later English-language KCNA story about the incident.

According to KCNA, the government’s integrated nuclear weapons management system included the recently disclosed fire-control system in the drill.

The United States State Department denounced Thursday’s launch, which used ballistic missile technology, as careless and in violation of many resolutions passed by the U.N. Security Council.

According to a study summary released on Friday, the U.S. Defence Intelligence Agency stated that analysis of debris imagery reveals Russia has deployed North Korean missiles in its battle in Ukraine.

Despite vowing to increase cooperation across the board, Russia and North Korea have refuted any discussions about weaponry sales that would violate UN sanctions against Pyongyang.

In a different commentary published on Friday, KCNA condemned the United States and the South for violating North Korea’s sovereignty by sending RC-135U reconnaissance aircraft from Japan to the Korean peninsula on Wednesday.

Using flight trackers, South Korean media claimed that this week a U.S. military spy plane passed over the Seoul metropolitan area and waterways off the west coast.

On Wednesday, North Korea called the hundreds of balloons carrying waste and manure it sent to South Korea “gifts of sincerity”; Seoul, on the other hand, retaliated angrily, calling the conduct dangerous and base.
