Kuldeep Yadav, the chinaman bowler from Uttar Pradesh, made his return to Test cricket after 22 months in style as he dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha in quick succession to break Anil Kumble’s record of most wickets by an Indian spinner on Bangladesh soil.

This was Kuldeep’s first Test match since the historic day-night Test against Bangladesh in 2019, where he had picked up a five-wicket haul. He was out of favour for a while, but made a strong case for his inclusion in the team with some excellent performances in the IPL and domestic cricket.

Kuldeep was brought into the attack in the second innings with Bangladesh in a strong position, but he quickly turned the game on its head with two brilliant deliveries. First, he got rid of Ashwin with a beautiful googly that the batsman could only edge to Saha. Then, he bowled a perfect leg-spinner to Saha that spun sharply and hit the top of off-stump.

With those two wickets, Kuldeep went past Kumble’s record of 15 wickets in a Test series in Bangladesh. H
