The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is the main body of the United Nations charged with the maintenance of international peace and security. Its membership is made up of five permanent members—China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States—and ten non-permanent members who are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms. India has been a non-permanent member of the UNSC seven times in the past, and is currently serving its eighth term.

India has long sought a permanent seat on the UNSC, and its application has been supported by a number of nations. These nations believe that India is a worthy candidate for a permanent seat due to its large population, status as a nuclear power, and history of peaceful relations with other countries. Additionally, India is one of the largest contributors to the United Nations, and its economy is projected to be the world’s largest by 2030.

The following nations have voiced their support for India’s application for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council:

Afghanistan
Argentina
Bangladesh
Bhutan
Brazil
Cambodia
Egypt
Fiji
Greece
Guyana
Iceland
Iraq
Israel
Japan
Kazakhstan
Kenya
Kuwait
