Macau will permit COVID infection home isolation

The Macau government has announced that it will allow residents who have contracted the coronavirus to isolate at home, in a bid to ease pressure on the city’s hospitals.

The decision was made at a meeting of the city’s COVID-19 response committee on Tuesday, and will come into effect immediately.

Residents who have tested positive for the virus and are asymptomatic will be able to apply to isolate at home for a period of 14 days.

Those who have been in close contact with a confirmed case will also be eligible for home isolation, provided they have not developed any symptoms.

The move will free up hospital beds for more serious cases, and will help to relieve the strain on the city’s health care system.

It is hoped that the new measure will help to reduce the spread of the virus in the community.
