As MI captain suffers the fury of SRH, Rohit Sharma assumes command and sends Hardik Pandya to the boundary in a famous role-reversal.

Rohit Sharma made calls, instructing Hardik Pandya on the field for the SRH vs MI IPL 2024 match.

Two days after a viral video of Hardik Pandya instructing Rohit Sharma on fielding, the situation changed on Wednesday evening. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s aggressive performance led to Rohit taking over as captain. While Hardik remained captain, Rohit made calls, set the field, and chatted with bowlers, reminiscent of the old days, as Hardik ran out of ideas.

Rohit Sharma took control of the match against Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, reverting to his captaincy hat and making changes in the field. The video captured shows MI running for cover against Head and Sharma’s onslaught, showcasing the perfect role reversal in the match.

The game was a thrilling one with over 500 runs scored, 38 sixes hit, and the highest team total in an IPL match, breaking the 11-year record set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. MI responded with the highest IPL total in a chase, but fell short by 31 runs, finishing with 246/5.

Head and Sharma took 19 and 17 balls respectively to score fiftys, with Head holding the record for the fastest fifty by an SRH batter. Sharma soon improved the record. The pitch at Uppal was ideal for batters, but the carnage unfolded unexpectedly. By the halfway stage, SRH were at 148/1, the highest IPL score at the end of 10 overs, causing a pandemonium that blew MI away.

SRH’s batting was the closest the world came to experiencing a repeat of Chris Gayle’s 2013 Chinnaswamy match. Cricket websites struggled to provide live updates as every second ball was carted away for six. The only difference is that back then, it was a one-man show, while today, all SRH batters had fun at the expense of MI.

Head hit a 24-ball 62, Sharma hit a 23-ball 63, and Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 80 off 34 set SRH a record. Aiden Markram’s 42 not out off 28 at a strike-rate of 150 was also noteworthy, as it was a bonkers performance.

MI dominated the match with a strong performance, raising their fifty in three overs with Ishan Kishan and Rohit. Kishan hit a hat-trick of sixes against Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while Rohit maintained the pace with his powerful hitting. Tilak Varma also contributed with three consecutive sixes off Shahbaz Ahmed, bringing up a half-century off 24 balls.

The asking rate was too high, causing pressure on Naman Dhir and Tilak. Pandya joined Tilak, but Hardik slowed down, and Tilak perished. Tim David tried with 42 not out off 22 balls, but failed.

Virat Kohli leaps out of his seat at Dinesh Karthik’s game-winning smashes in the last over of RCB vs. PBKS in the Indian Premier League.

Dinesh Karthik secured a thrilling final win for RCB in IPL 2024, leaving Virat Kohli excited.

Royal Challengers Bangalore secured a thrilling four-wicket victory against Punjab Kings in their second IPL 2024 fixture, thanks to Dinesh Karthik’s heroics, chasing 177 runs in 19.2 overs.

RCB struggled to start their run chase, with Virat Kohli leading the charge with 77 runs off 49 balls. However, he missed a ton and lost his wicket in the final delivery to Harshal Patel. After Kohli’s departure, RCB was at 130/5.

RCB faced a potential defeat, but Dinesh Karthik came in to replace Anuj Rawat. He started poorly, losing his wicket in the 17th over. Mahipal Lomror replaced Rawat, who started with a four and a single. Karthik then hit Sam Curran for a four and ended the over with two runs.

In the 18th over, Lomror scored a six and four, allowing 13 runs off 12 balls, while Harshal Patel conceded 13 runs, being clobbered by Karthik for a four and six.

In a game with RCB needing 10 runs in the final over, Shikhar Dhawan chose Arshdeep as the pacer. Karthik scored a six, causing celebration among his RCB teammates, including Kohli. Arshdeep then bowled a wide and a full delivery, which Karthik hit for a four, ending the match in style.

Karthik impressed in RCB’s defeat against CSK, despite being a little bit uncontrollable. He needed a knock from Lomror, who took the pressure off him. Mahipal’s walk off relieved the pressure, and Lomror remained calm. Harshal, a wily customer, had the dipping slower one, and Karthik had to wait to play the scoop. Lomror’s six was a crucial moment, and Karthik advised him to keep a still head.

Better than MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar is Virat Kohli: Cricket great RCB is ‘the best’ ever, according to Navjot Sidhu.

Published

on

The “greatest ever” Virat Kohli, according to former Indian batter Navjot Singh Sidhu, is superior to MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar. Sidhu made remarks that are sure to cause a stir before the 2024 Indian Premier League officially begins. India has been fortunate to have some of the top batters in the world over the years. Selecting one that spans generations is regarded as one of the most difficult jobs.

Before the rise of a certain Sunil Gavaskar, Vinoo Mankad, Polly Umrigar, and Vijay Hazare ruled the batting charts in India’s early years of Test cricket. By scoring 34 Test hundreds and becoming the first cricketer to surpass the 10000-run threshold, he elevated batting to a new level. Although India was fortunate to have Gundappa Viswanath, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Mohinder Amarnath in their batting lineup during his tenure, commentators would always rank Gavaskar higher.

With the conclusion of the Gavaskar period, Sachin Tendulkar emerged as India’s first cricket superstar on a worldwide scale, becoming visible in homes via color television. Tendulkar represented modern cricket with distinction. The world has seen the devastation caused by Viv Richards’ bowling attacks, and now they have experienced the devastation caused by copybook batting. Tendulkar established the standard for batting because he had every shot in the book. Records came next. He was the first to score 10,000 runs in one-day internationals (ODIs), the first to score 15,000 runs in Tests, the only one to achieve 100 centuries, the first to get an ODI double century—you name it, he had it. He was also the first to play 200 tests.

Though he was in a class apart, Tendulkar also had players like Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, and VVS Laxman. It was virtually a given that there would be an emptiness following Tendulkar’s retirement. But even when Tendulkar called it quits, the cricket world had no idea that India would get another icon in the form of Virat Kohli.

The world’s first three-format batter, Kohli, was unstoppable in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, winning all three series with ease. He broke record after record set by Tendulkar, turned his hand to run-chasing in white-ball cricket, and consistently maintained an average of 50 or above in Twenty20 Internationals, the most unpredictable format of them all.

Sidhu believes that Kohli is the best because he can dominate three formats, something that none of the Tendulkars or Gavaskars had to do.

He is, in my opinion, the greatest Indian hitter of all time. There were times, back in the 1970s, when I would turn on my transistor and watch Sunil Gavaskar play cricket against the West Indies. That was the era of the renowned West Indies fast bowlers, who would skip class and only go out for one session. You could hear him batting without a helmet. He ruled for about fifteen to twenty years. Then another era arrived with Tendulkar. Virat followed Dhoni in order of appearance. Sidhu told India Today, “If you look at four, I would rate him as the best because he has adapted to all three formats.”

Sidhu, who will be back in the commentary booth for the 2024 Indian Premier League, claimed that while MS Dhoni was the first player to instigate a fitness revolution in Indian cricket, Kohli outgrew him in terms of fitness.

Likewise, he is the most physically fit of them all and has excellent technical ability. He would be the fittest out of the four. In his later years, Tendulkar experienced issues. Dhoni is in good shape. Virat is really well-fit. That benefits him greatly. It takes him to a level, a few notches above, that nobody else has attained. He benefits from the lifespan factor. Sone Pe Suhaaga is the factor of adaptation,” he continued.

The birth of his second child prevented Kohli from participating in the whole five-match Test series against England. In the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024, which begins on March 22, he will be a key member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batting lineup as he returns to the game.
