Men’s singles at the Australian Open preview and forecast: Djokovic is once again the clear favourite, but who can stop him?

Since Novak Djokovic’s comeback in October of last year, only Holger Rune has been able to overcome him. The young Danish international defeated the Serb in Paris Bercy to win his first Masters 1000 championship after the Serb competed in four events through the end of 2022, reaching the final in each case. It undoubtedly takes a lot of cunning to beat a Djokovic in top form. The difficulty level instantly increases when one of his favourite locations, where he won six titles, is included. But at Melbourne Park, Djokovic is a completely different animal. In the fourth round of the 2018 Australian Open, he was defeated by an unheralded Chung Hyeon.

After the Covid drama, the 35-year-old, who has since won in all three of the editions he competed in Melbourne, returns to Australia hungrier than ever. Additionally, Djokovic enters the Slam as the clear favourite after winning the Adelaide 250 championship last week. Can anyone, though, stop him?

Despite all the buzz about Djokovic, Rafael Nadal is the reigning champion and top seed at Melbourne Park. The Australian Open wasn’t as normal. Of course, it is the first since 2010. Nadal is one among the favourites to beat the hot-shot Djokovic this time around since, unlike in 2022, he is not worried about any injuries.
