Minister on Aamir Khan’s Kalash puja and SRK’s visit to Vaishno Devi: “Worship any god but…”
The Indian Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has sparked controversy with his comments on the recent Kalash puja performed by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, and the visit of actor Shahrukh Khan to the Vaishno Devi shrine.
Rijiju, who is a Hindu, said that while he does not object to anyone worshipping any god, he does not understand why “some people” feel the need to “show off” their religious beliefs.
“I don’t object to anyone’s worship. But why do some people have to show off? Worship any god but don’t show off. It is not good for the society,” Rijiju said in an interview with ANI.
Rijiju’s comments come at a time when there is a growing feeling among many Hindus that their religion is under threat from Islam and Christianity.
Some Hindu groups have also been critical of Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan for allegedly promoting Islam and Christianity through their films and public appearances.
Rijiju’s comments are likely to further fuel the debate on whether Bollywood actors should be more careful about their public image.
