The UK’s first Jainism degree programme is set to launch in January at the University of Manchester. The three-year course, which is open to both Jain and non-Jain students, will cover topics such as the history and philosophy of Jainism, Jain scriptures and ethics.

The foundation of the “world-leading” Programme for Integral Studies in India (PISI) at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Bangalore has been made possible by a donation of USD 1.5 million from a group of philanthropists of Indian descent.

The new programme will launch in September 2023 and will create three assistant professorships: one in Jain Studies, one in Ethics of Non-Violence, and one in Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Jain Studies.
