In the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, on the eleventh lunar day of the waxing phase, comes Nirjala Ekadashi, a significant Hindu holy day. The waterless fast that followers of this day practice is the source of the name “Nirjala”. Nirjala Ekadashi is considered the most austere and sacred of the 24 ekadashis. If observed fervently, it is said to confer the same virtue as observing all the other ekadashis of the year. It is also known as “Pandava Bhima Ekadashi,” “Jyestha Shukla Ekadashi,” and “Pandava Nirjala Ekadashi.” This day is devoted to Lord Vishnu. Scroll down to learn more about this auspicious occasion, from date to history.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2024 is when? Recognize the date and time.
This year, on Tuesday, June 18, the important Hindu holiday of Nirjala Ekadashi will be held. Drik Pachang states that the following are lucky times to commemorate the occasion:

Time in Parana: 06:05 AM until 07:28 AM

Dwadashi end time on Parana day is 07:28 AM.

Ekadashi tithi starts on June 17, 2024, at 04:43 AM.

Ekadashi tithi finishes on June 18, 2024, at 06:24 AM.

History of Nirjala Ekadashi 2024
Bhima, the second and most powerful of the five Pandava brothers in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, is the inspiration behind the name Nirjala Ekadashi. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana states that Bhima, who had an intense love of eating, attempted to keep all ekadashi fasts but was unable to suppress his appetite. He went to the sage Vyasa, the grandfather of the Pandavas and the author of the Mahabharata, in search of a solution. Vyasa counseled him to keep a severe fast on Nirjala Ekadashi, which falls on one day every year. Bhima achieved the virtue of all 24 ekadashis by performing this.

Relevance of the Nirjala Ekadashi
The Vishnu and Markandeya Puras claim that Ekadashi is a manifestation of Vishnu in and of itself. It is said that keeping the vrata (fast) on this day will atone for all sins. It is said that completing the Nirjala Ekadashi vrata wins the favor of Vishnu, bestowing upon the devotee bliss, prosperity, and pardon for transgressions. The merit accruing from observing all 24 of the year’s ekadashis is given to the devotee. Vaishnavas are particularly well-liked and adhere to this fast.

It is stated that the spectator attains moksha, or salvation, and long life. After a person passes away, their soul is usually retrieved by the emissaries of Yama, the god of death, who then decides whether to send them to Naraka (hell) or Svarga (heaven). But individuals who follow the Nirjala Ekadashi customs are thought to be exempt from Yama’s judgment and are instead taken by Vishnu’s messengers to Vaikuntha, Vishnu’s abode, after death.

Learn about Christmas 2024’s background, significance, and the reasons it’s observed on December 25.

Christmas 2024: Know about history, importance, significance of this day and why it’s celebrated on December 25

The birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated on December 25. Find out the history and significance of this day.

Christmas 2024: Christmas is a much-anticipated festival of the year. It is celebrated every year on December 25 to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as per Christians. The holy day also celebrates his teachings of love, forgiveness, and compassion. This holiday brings families and friends together, celebrating the warmth and cheer of Christmas, from singing Christmas carols to decorating the Christmas tree. Here’s more about the history of this special day.

The Bible does not exactly mention the birth date of Jesus Christ. There’s no specific date or month. It’s very vague. This suggests that the early Christians did not celebrate Christmas and his death and resurrection (Easter). The Bible, as a work of theology, is centred more on the teachings. However, it wasn’t until centuries later that the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth was formally established with December 25 being chosen. But it was not through any direct Biblical reference but rather it coincides with the Roman winter solstice festival.

Ancient Rome used a different calendar back then so the winter solstice fell on December 25. On this day Romans observed dies natalis solis invicti (birthday of the Invincible Sun) celebrating the end of the winter and resurgence of the sun. This day is special as after winter solstice the days begin to lengthen, marking the ‘rebirth’ of the sun. Early Christians may have chosen December 25 to align with this celebration of light and the ‘rebirth’ of the sun, adeptly symbolizing Jesus as the ‘light of the world.’ Jesus Christ in John 8:12 referred to himself as the light of the world.

Importance of Christmas
Christmas cheer is enthusiastic and infectious, from celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ to bonding with family, exchanging gifts, and preparing meals together. It is also a day to reflect on and celebrate the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christmas is a widely celebrated festival, across cultures and the globe.
