The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar travelled to Delhi on the same plane on Wednesday for meetings of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the nation’s capital.

The meetings are slated for the day after the opposition INDIA bloc’s comeback helped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA win an extremely narrow majority in the Lok Sabha elections. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepared to become the first leader since Jawaharlal Nehru to secure a third straight term, the NDA leaders were anticipated to discuss the results of the Lok Sabha poll and the formation of the cabinet.

Since the BJP is unable to secure a majority, Modi will need the help of allies like Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Kumar of the Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), in order to succeed.

In the 543-member Lok Sabha, the NDA is comfortably ahead of the majority threshold (272). For the first time since 2014, the BJP has not reached the halfway point and now needs the support of its allies to establish a government. Despite being discounted in the exit polls, the INDIA alliance managed to secure 233 seats.

The Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena (seven seats), Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (five seats), the TDP (16 seats), and JD(U) (12 seats) would all be significant players in the formation of the cabinet.

The leaders of RJD and Kumar’s JD(U) maintained that Yadav and Kumar’s concurrent one and a half-hour trip was just a coincidence. Sitting behind Kumar was Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar prior to JD(U) leaving the INDIA alliance. They declined to comment.

Party general secretary KC Tyagi has stated the JD(U) position. It was and will continue to be in the NDA, a JD(U) leader declared.

Nikhil Mandal, the head of JD(U), stated that not everyone aspires to be Nitish Kumar. He is an irresistible man who answers his phone of his own free will, devoid of coercion or bribery. He is powerful and relevant in Bihar politics as well as national politics because everyone wants him.

The meeting between Yadav and Nitish Kumar on the Delhi flight, according to an RJD senior, was just a coincidence. The INDIA alliance is not far behind the BJP in its efforts to gain a majority. The RJD leader remarked, “Nitish Kumar was the one who initiated the opposition unity’s effort and he may always return.

Leaders like Kumar and Naidu have always opposed the BJP’s vendetta tactics, according to RJD spokesman Manoj Jha, and they are available for a call. “The two politicians’ socialist ideologies do not mesh well with the BJP, as they were always part of the INDIA bloc’s agenda. Nitish Kumar’s unease with Narendra Modi is also evident, he claimed.

As per NK Choudhary, a political expert, anything may happen in politics. Once more, Nitish Kumar has the freedom to move as he pleases. Only time will tell how he will approach it. He won’t find it simple to switch over again because of the complexity required. He is a cunning politician who understands when and how to play his cards.

Important INDIA component Uddhav Thackeray made reference to Naidu on Tuesday, stating that all nationalists and those persecuted by the BJP would arrive in their gathering.
