New Delhi: In response to the National Testing Agency’s petition to transfer cases on the NEET-UG issue that are proceeding in many high courts to the highest court in order to prevent a proliferation of litigation, the Supreme Court on Friday sent letters to private parties.

The National Testing Agency’s submission that multiple pleas, seeking cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test–Under Graduate, 2024 on the grounds of question paper leaks and other malpractices, are pending in several high courts was noted by a vacation bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta.

“Issue notice,” the bench declared, adding that a hearing would be held on July 8.

Meanwhile, the NTA announced its intention to withdraw three other petitions that sought to transfer cases from higher courts to the supreme court. These petitions concerned the awarding of grace marks to 1,563 candidates who were late for the May 5 exam.

The NTA’s attorney declared that the matter had been resolved and that he would notify the supreme court of the decision to revoke the compensatory marks awarded to 1,536 candidates as well as the ensuing June 13 ruling.

The Centre and the NTA informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that they had revoked the grace marks granted to 1,563 applicants who took the exam in order to be admitted to MBBS and other similar programmes, amidst a furious dispute over the NEET-UG exam.

The centre had stated that they will be given the choice to retake the test or forfeit the bonus points that were given to them for time lost.

About 24 lakh students sat the exam, which was administered on May 5 at 4,750 locations. Although the results were supposed to be released on June 14, they were instead revealed on June 4, perhaps as a result of the answer sheet examination being finished sooner.

Protests in multiple locations and cases filed in seven high courts, including the Supreme Court, have resulted from the charges. On June 10, a large number of students demonstrated in Delhi to demand an investigation into purported anomalies.

Six students from a centre in Faridabad, Haryana, made the list of pupils who achieved a perfect 720, which is unique in the history of the NTA and raised questions about anomalies. Grace marks are said to have played a part in 67 students sharing the top spot.

For admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other relevant courses in public and private universities across the nation, the NTA administers the NEET-UG exam.
