Owaisi on the government’s decision for Madrasa teachers: “Assam not a foreign country where…”

The Indian government’s recent decision to make madrasa teachers undergo a National Eligibility Test in order to be eligible for government jobs has been met with criticism from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi.

In a tweet, Owaisi said that Assam is not a “foreign country” where the government can impose such a decision without consulting the Muslim community. He added that the decision will adversely affect the livelihoods of many madrasa teachers and their families.

Owaisi’s comments come amid growing concerns over the government’s alleged attempts to “saffronise” education in the country. Madrasas are Islamic religious schools that offer instruction in religious subjects as well as secular ones.

Critics say that the government’s decision is part of a wider effort to marginalise the Muslim community and undermine the role of madrasas in society. The government has denied these allegations, saying that the decision is part of its commitment to ensuring quality education for all.
