The first move of the newly sworn-in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government was approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, who also approved the second installment of the PM Kisan cash transfer scheme for farmers.

Modi approved the release of the 17th installment of PM Kisan Nidhi, worth ₹20,000 crore, for 93 million eligible farmers by signing his first file.

“Our government is totally dedicated to the welfare of farmers, or Kisan Kalyan.” According to a release, Modi stated, “It is fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare.”

On February 28, Modi announced the delivery of the sixteenth installment of PM-KISAN, a cash-transfer programme for low-income farmers.

Modi had used direct benefit transfer to give nearly ₹18,000 crore to 80 million farmers in the fifteenth installment.

Farmers who have a valid enrolment are eligible for an annual income support of ₹6,000 from the government under PM-KISAN. Every four months, it is paid in three equal cash transfers totaling ₹2,000. The social welfare initiative began operations on February 24, 2019.
