Prez Biden of the US urges on Hamas to embrace a fresh ceasefire deal that he has presented to Israel.

The best way to start reducing the deadly confrontation, according to U.S. President Joe Biden, is for Hamas militants to accept a fresh offer from Israel to release captives in exchange for a ceasefire in Gaza on Friday.

“With a ceasefire, that aid could be safely and effectively distributed to all who need it,” Biden stated.

“As someone who’s had a lifelong commitment to Israel, as the only American president who has ever gone to Israel at a time of war, as someone who just sent the U.S. forces to directly defend Israel when it was attacked by Iran, I ask you to take a step back, think what will happen if this moment is lost,” said the president. “We can’t lose this moment.”

In exchange for a six-week ceasefire that may be prolonged to allow for the delivery of more humanitarian aid into the enclave, sick, elderly, and wounded captives in Gaza were to be released, according to a prior hostage proposal made earlier this year.

The proposed agreement broke down earlier this month as a result of Israel’s increased attacks on the southern Gazan city of Rafah and refusal to consent to a lasting stop to the conflict as stipulated in the negotiations.

As the onslaught continued, Hamas informed mediators that it would not engage in further talks. However, it claimed on Thursday that it was prepared for a “full agreement,” which would include the handover of prisoners and hostages in the event that Israel ceased its war.

Negotiations to set up a ceasefire between Israel and the Islamist movement in the Gaza war, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and other parties, have frequently broken down, with each side blaming the other for the lack of progress.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a U.S. official said that national security adviser to the White House Jake Sullivan will meet on Friday with diplomats from seventeen nations whose people are being held captive in Gaza by Hamas.

A top Israeli security officer stated on Friday that Israel will not consent to any ceasefire that does not include the release of the other hostages.

An Israeli attack in Rafah on Sunday that claimed 45 Palestinian lives overshadowed Biden.

John Kirby, the White House’s national security spokesperson, stated on Tuesday that the United States will not be withdrawing more military aid in response to recent Israeli ground operations in Rafah.

More than 36,280 individuals are thought to have died in Gaza, according to Palestinian health authorities, since Israel invaded the enclave on October 7, in retaliation for a Hamas strike in southern Israel. Israeli tolls from the Hamas attack indicate that almost 1,200 people were killed.
