Rahul on Mandaviya’s letter: “Centre is making up reasons to halt the Bharat Jodo Yatra.”
Today, Rahul Gandhi tweeted in response to a letter written by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to Home Minister Amit Shah. In his tweet, Rahul said that the Centre is making up reasons to halt the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a proposed nationwide yatra by the Congress party.
Rahul’s tweet comes a day after the Home Ministry wrote to the Gujarat Police, asking them to review the permissions granted for the yatra. The ministry had cited “intelligence inputs” that the yatra could lead to “breach of peace and public order”.
Rahul has accused the Centre of using the “excuse” of law and order to stop the yatra, which he said was meant to unite the country. He has also accused the government of “targeting” the Congress party and trying to “silence” its voice.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra started on September 7, 2022, from Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari and cover a distance of over 3570 km over the course of three months. It will culminate in Srinagar in January next year.
