I am appalled”

The Taliban’s recent announcement that they will be restricting women from attending universities has been met with criticism from around the world. Rishi Sunak, the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, is one of those critics.

Sunak, who has two daughters, said he was “appalled” by the Taliban’s decision. “As a father to daughters, I am appalled by this decision,” he said. “It is a backward step for the country and it will have a hugely damaging impact on women and girls.”

Sunak went on to say that the UK would be providing support to Pakistani universities to help them continue to provide education to women and girls. “The UK will continue to support Pakistani universities so they can keep providing education to women and girls,” he said.
