Russia supports India’s permanent UNSC membership by pointing to its “reputation” and “authority.”
Russia has long been a supporter of India’s permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council. In a recent statement, Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, reaffirmed his country’s support, saying that India has a “reputation” and “authority” that make it a deserving candidate for the UNSC.
Nebenzya’s remarks come at a time when India is seeking to bolster its case for permanent membership on the UNSC. In recent months, India has been actively campaigning for support from UN member states, and it appears that its efforts are starting to pay off.
If Russia continues to throw its weight behind India’s candidacy, it could prove to be a decisive factor in India’s bid for permanent UNSC membership.
