SC declines to consider requests to delay the release of “The Kerala Story”

Chief Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha ensure that high courts have control over situations. Vrinda Grover appeared for Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind. Grover said the movie is intended to cause hatred and enmity. The Jamiat argued that the movie falsely claimed 32,000 girls left Kerala to join ISIS, while the United Nations, Union Home Ministry and police sources all agree that around 66 Indians left to join ISIS, and between 100 and 200 pro-ISIS persons may have shown inclination towards ISIS.Petition sought stay on movie release and disclaimer stating it is a work of fiction.

Supreme Court asked petitioners to approach Kerala high court.

Petitions granted liberty to approach the high court, allowing them to be mentioned for early hearing in May. Harish Salve objected to petitions being mentioned in a movie disclaimer. Advocate Pasha mentioned a petition in the Supreme Court, arguing that the movie is aimed at spreading hate speech through an audio-visual medium. CJI-led bench asked if matter was pending before top court. Pasha mentioned an application to stall the film’s release, but it was not entertained and he was asked to file a writ petition.
