PM Modi congratulated CM Shehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif won his second term as Pakistan’s Prime Minister, securing 201 votes in parliament, leading the PML-N in a coalition government with the Pakistan People’s Party.

The PML-N-PPP alliance deal favored Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, as the chief minister of Punjab province. Maryam became the first woman to hold this position, while PPP’s senior leader, former Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari, was appointed as the President.

On February 8, Sharif’s Nawaz PML-N party secured second position, while independent candidates supported by imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) obtained the highest number of seats but failed to secure a parliamentary majority.
