Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticizes Congress for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, citing “appeasement and vote-bank politics” as the law was implemented four years ago.

Amit Shah emphasized that the Congress party opposed the Citizenship and Alienation Act (CAA), citing appeasement and vote-bank politics as reasons for their opposition to the promise of citizenship for religiously persecuted individuals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honoured Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain refugees through CAA, despite millions of Pakistani and Bangladeshi people arriving in India without citizenship.

Amit Shah’s comments follow the implementation of CAA by the Centre, over four years after the parliament passed the legislation in December 2019.

CAA is opposed by Congress and other opposition parties.
