Taiwan is shaken by a 6.2-magnitude earthquake.
At around 2:30 pm on Thursday, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan, with its epicenter located in the northeastern county of Yilan. The earthquake caused buildings to shake in the capital city of Taipei, and was also felt in other parts of the island. There have been no reports of major damage or casualties so far.
This is the second earthquake to hit Taiwan this week. On Tuesday, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Hualien, causing some damage to buildings. Taiwan is located in a seismically active area, and earthquakes are not uncommon. In 2016, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the southern city of Tainan, resulting in the collapse of several buildings and the death of 115 people.
Taiwanese authorities are urging people to stay alert and be prepared for aftershocks.
