Tendulkar recalls startling conversation with India teammate while serving as captain: “If you do this again, I will send you back home.”
When Sachin Tendulkar was serving as captain of the Indian cricket team, he recalls having a startling conversation with one of his teammates. The teammate told him, “If you do this again, I will send you back home.” Tendulkar was amazed by this comment and asked the teammate what he meant. The teammate explained that he was referring to Tendulkar’s decision to declared the innings early in a match against Sri Lanka. Tendulkar had declared the innings early in an attempt to give his team a better chance to win, but the move backfired and Sri Lanka went on to win the match. The teammate told Tendulkar that he should have consulted with the team before making such a decision. Tendulkar apologized to his teammates and promised to consult with them in the future before making any major decisions.
