The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in the corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court has directed Deshmukh to furnish a personal bond of Rs. 2 lakh and two sureties of Rs. 1 lakh each.

Deshmukh has been accused of corruption by the CBI on the basis of allegations made by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had asked police officers to collect Rs. 100 crore every month from bars and restaurants in Mumbai.

The CBI had registered an FIR against Deshmukh on April 20. The agency had filed a chargesheet in the case on May 24.

Deshmukh had resigned from his post as Home Minister on Monday, following mounting pressure from the Opposition and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
